I'm from an Indigenous culture and grew up in a large military family. When I went off to college, I was involved in Greek Life. I also worked in mental health facilities and with neurodivergent students. I didn’t set out to write a book about my experiences, but I can’t deny those aspects seeped into my writing.
My favorite novel is Battle Royale, my favorite TV show is America’s Best Dance Crew, and my favorite video game series is Mortal Kombat (with Fallout an extremely close second.) My debut novel doesn't contain the level of gore and violence found in those stories, but I love exploring the group dynamics.
I'm a reader who loves complexity, and I’m always eager to memorize a wide array of characters, concepts, etc. I spend hours reading wikis so I get the whole picture on everything and everyone.
As an author, I have the mentality that readers are intelligent, and I should trust them. I didn’t grow up with Western storytelling traditions, so I don’t write with individual arcs in mind; I write with systems in mind. Communities, organizations, and structures are my protagonists. If I were to describe my novel, it would be a bit like Battle Royale. Instead of following individual characters, I follow how a group changes and how each character contributes to that single arc.
